Golden screens

I'm seeing a few visitors with screen resolutions of 1680 x 1050 which is very nearly the golden ratio. Is it the screen nirvana that I imagine?

I've avoided wide screen monitors because, well, they just look wrong. I don't know why. I thought it might be some clash between the move to wider screens and the document metaphor's natural affinity for a vertical screen*, but I'm not so sure.

If I had a screen 1.618 times wider than its height, though, would I ever look back?

* I invariably drag windows so they are taller than they are wide so I already have unused screen width.
